CLARUS CRIMSON MARK II AES EBU DIGITAL AUDIO CABLE

Precise Digital Integrity

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) and the European Broadcast Union (EBU) jointly developed the AES EBU standard. The Clarus AES EBU Digital Cable with wide bandwidth capabilities allows bit-serial transmission that dramatically reduces phase-related high frequency noise and jitter. For bit-perfect, quiet and precise digital audio AES EBU is the preferred serial digital interface format used in professional audio environments. 

Clarus AES EBU balanced digital audio cables are designed with triple balanced geometry that provides dedicated conductors for the (+) signal, (-) signal, and ground connections, each made from the purest silver-plated copper, insulated to minimize inter-conductor interference. Finally, cables are meticulously hand terminated in Orlando Florida with highly conductive tellurium copper XLR connectors. The result is a professional level digital audio cable which is incredibly immune to noise and can carry digital signals longer distances with more purity than regular unbalanced or SDPIF digital cables.

The Purest Copper Available for the Purest Sound Possible

Clarus designs cables for discriminating audiophiles using the purest copper available. Pure Continuous Cast Copper (PCCC) uses a unique proprietary mold extrusion process that creates substantial lengths of single-crystal copper that is directional, free of impurities, flexible and corrosion-resistant, with low electrical resistance, and non-crystal boundaries that are structurally perfect.

AES EBU DIGITAL AUDIO CABLE CONSTRUCTION

Cable Geometry Optimized for 110-Ohm Impedance

The Clarus Crimson AES EBU Digital Cable is a 110-ohm AES type-one balanced design consisting of three dedicated solid gauge PCCC copper conductors with 6.1% ultra-pure silver-plating. Each conductor is individually insulated and surrounded with the highest-quality dielectric material available—nitrogen injected skin-foam-skin polyethylene (PE). A layer of skin seals the conductor, eliminating corrosion and creating an ideal surface. Then, a second skin protects the dielectric from crushing to maintain a strict 110-ohm impedance. The PE dielectric between the skins is injected with nitrogen to produce a foam-like substance with a high gaseous concentration and an ultra-low dielectric constant. This dielectric reduces signal loss and attenuation while increasing the velocity of propagation.

Multiple Levels of Shielding Maintain Signal Purity

AES EBU balanced digital audio cables consist of three conductors twisted together and surrounded with a protective layer of aluminum and Mylar® and two silver-plated copper braided shields. This triple shield is connected only to the source end of the balanced cable and acts like an antenna/drain that provides a path for induced noise to ground away from the connected component’s input stage. This design preserves the integrity of the AES EBU high-frequency digital signal. The result is clean and precise bit-perfect sound.

Mark II — The Final Connection

Clarus terminates Mark II AES EBU cables with high-purity, high-conductivity tellurium copper that provides low resistance with superior sound characteristics and lightweight, springy, and high-conductivity beryllium copper guarantees solid contact and ultra-low-loss signal transfer.

The tellurium copper male pins of the XLR feature a hollow design that reduces eddy currents that slow signal transfer. The beryllium copper female XLR pins are designed with pin one (the earth ground pin) forward in the connector, which makes insertion and removal of the XLR connectors in live equipment possible without audible hum or buzz that can damage the loudspeaker drivers.
